.DISCUSSION...
KEY MESSAGES:
- Above normal temperatures and mostly dry conditions will
continue through Friday.
- Friday night, a cold front will bring a pattern change with a
chance for significant mixed precip. Totals are not yet tied
down.
WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:
Today & Tonight: A weak shortwave is expected to move across
southern Saskatchewan and will have a brief impact across northern
Montana with a slightly tighter pressure gradient. There is
leading to marginally gusty northwest winds to maintain a Lake
Wind Advisory today through at least early this afternoon.
Monday to Tuesday night: A warm front will move across the area
with a ridge behind it. The pressure gradient is much stronger
than today. But, with WAA gusts may not be strong enough to
warrant a Lake Wind Advisory either.
Wednesday to Friday: Conditions will cool off slightly by Friday
as mostly southwest flow stays over the region moistening the air
aloft.
Friday night through Sunday: Southwest flow will transition as a
large pacific trough slams into the region cooling things off.
Newly moistened air will likely squeeze out precipitation behind
the initial cold frontal passage. Current totals look to be around
a tenth to a quarter inch. But, this is subject to much change
with future forecasts. Temperatures with this passage pass over
the freezing mark allowing rain to become a wintry mix or all snow
quickly with the passage. Currently, snow looks to diminish by
Saturday night with clearing on Sunday. Snow totals are unknown
and dependent on liquid moisture totals and transition timing.
FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS:
Confidence in medium for any Lake Wind criteria being maintained
through this afternoon and will likely be able to cancel at least
a few hours early, even using close to NBM 90th percentile
guidance. Confidence is high on the temperature trend this week,
while low to medium for precipitation type/amounts for Friday
night into Saturday.
