.DISCUSSION...
KEY MESSAGES:
1) There is a chance of rain showers south of the Missouri River
this morning.
2) Above normal temperatures are expected to persist until a cold
front arrives Wednesday night.
3) Gusty northwest winds are expected once again on Thursday.
WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:
A wave on NW flow aloft this morning will bring a chance of rain
showers to some areas south of the Missouri. Then, an upper ridge
over the western us will expand into eastern Montana tonight and
Wednesday keeping above normal temperatures in place with mainly
dry weather.
The next shortwave will drop down on northwest flow aloft with a
dry surface cold front Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
Expect strong northwest winds as a result during the day Thursday
with winds peaking during the afternoon and evening with cooler
temperatures to follow. Wind speeds and gusts will likely reach
High Wind Warning criteria (40 mph sustained or gusts to 58 mph)
in the Plentywood area where the NBM has a 90% chance on Thursday.
The NBM probabilities for 58+ mph gusts on Thursday are 50-70%
around Culbertson, Sidney and Zortman with lower probabilities
elsewhere in NE Montana. Parts of NE Montana will likely need a
High Wind Watch in the near future. Will wait a forecast cycle or
two to see where winds are trending.
Temperatures will be near normal on Friday and gradually warm over
the weekend and early next week with dry weather.
FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS:
Low confidence on any precipitation chances today. Moderate to
high confidence on temperature forecast the next few days. High
confidence on strong NW winds on Thursday but only moderate
confidence on forecast wind speeds.
Blended NBM 90 into Thursday`s winds with no other deviations from
the NBM.
